13985 Margaret Mitchell. GONE WITH THE WIND. NY: Macmillan 1st ed. 1st printing (May 1936). A fine copy in worn and repaired 1st-issue dustjacket (with GWTW listed in the second column). The jacket has been professionally repaired with archival materials. Several closed tears have been repaired with internal paper backing; about 1/2 an inch of the top of the spine is missing; there is a quarter-sized hole along the edge of the spine which partially affects the image of the confederate flag; there is a triangular chip at the bottom of the spine which affects the letter 'M' in 'Macmillan'. The back panel has repair to a hole in the paper which affects the words 'Summer Novels'. The front panel is undamaged. SOLD

The first printing of the first edition of this classic novel in a damaged but still presentable example of the 1st-issue dustjacket.

18371 Anna Sewell. BLACK BEAUTY. Boston: American Humane Education Society. 1st American ed. Softcover. A beautiful copy in very fine condition. The edges and spine are flat and sharp; the book still has the crispness of a new unread copy. There is some minor aging to the paper else this is a near-perfect copy. SOLD

A fantastic copy of the first American edition of this classic work. This book succeeds not only as the classic horse story but also for its role in raising the awareness of humane treatment of animals in the late Victorian era. This copy is arguably one of the finest - if not the finest - copies in existence today.
